On Furniture and Ethnography

We see numerous character traits that this Eastern race stems from origins in the Siberia.

Thick black hair covers protects from heat loss around the head (as anyone who goes in sub-zero Celsius temperatures can attest, for the head loses great amounts of heat), greater production of oils on the face prevents dehydration in the cold of winter, a proportion of limbs to trunk where the extremities are shorter conserves heat, and a wide face and epicanthic folds shields against winter glare from the periphery, the same way a pronounced brow ridge protects against overhead sun.

We can say, then, that perhaps the form of this race in northern forms is large, hulking, and wide as per Bergman’s rule and Allen’s rule. For these reasons shorter extremities give greater leverage in weightlifting. One may loosely surmise such biologies may lead to better wrestling from application of torque, but present a disadvantage in range such as in boxing. Could the more appropriate weapon then find itself not in a lance or sword, but range-extenders of lashing ropes backed by rotational torque?

In recent years, increases in height have been remarked upon. I wonder if the proportions of limbs still fit Allen’s rule, or whether it no longer applies.

Nevertheless, each organism is influenced by its environment, making it difficult to find original forms, shapes, and language. Many accept the norms of the water around them if they do not deeply investigate their own nature.

The purposes of this writing is so that those of Eastern races will be able to find themselves should they so choose, in the way that the Talmud may anchor Jews through thousands of years of nomadic-like history. However, my perspective is not a universalist one: I see no benefit in making others conform to these ways of being if it does not suit them for I accept the differences in other races, only that such apartness between peoples must be present if each is to live in a way corresponding with their most suitable lifestyle if it conflicts with the way of life of others, and no part of the lower demands that of the higher which it cannot procure itself.

I seek not to make others imitate me, and even if they did, they could not do it properly or well. What a bore that would be! If everyone in the world were the same! Yet if this difference involves unacceptable traits such as lying and crime, the only answer is a separation by distance and space.

Let us proceed to see what that may look like.

The Arctic Plain

The Arctic Plain finds itself in the quiet of endless tarmac, the large people’s squares as Siberian frost comes in from the north, and the endless expanse of ever-reflective snow and ice.

This original form expresses itself in space, in expansiveness, in a finite world against an infinite frontier. In green forms it may reveal itself in the wide boulevards of central Europe or grasses stretching until the horizon.

Crowdedness and noise from the lack of space interlaced with canal hazards in the forms of Amsterdam, Venice, or inner Manhattan is anathema to the silent quiet peace after snowfall. Quiet, can to some extent, be made with density and trees far from the road, but that is an internal clustering different from that of the silent horizon.

The Square

This rectangular form seems to be consistently repeated. Hardwood flooring which aims for jaggedness and natural variance in its installation is a romantic aspiration over the simple tiled repetition of a square. Whole-floor carpet, which seeks comfort at cost of long-term dirtiness, is also a romantic rather than a realist disposition.

The inside of the museum is similar to that of hospitals. Multiple floors overlooking a central atrium.

The Low Bench/Table

From the proportions of limbs coming from temperature and climatic reasons, it only holds that furniture will be lowered to account for it.

The Korean Spoon

If the benches must be lowered to better suit the proportions of limbs, either the bowl can be brought up or the spoon can be lengthened.

The opinion of this author is that the Korean spoon is more suitable for eating than make-shift rules for maneuvering an unsuitably short spoon.

However, flat stainless steel Korean chopsticks tend to be hard to use for those unfamiliar with it, for it tends to have low friction. Which type of chopstick is most suitable is up for debate. The creation of those chopsticks were because while South Korea was developing, it had a plethora of stainless steel but little of wood.

Conclusion

We have seen how biology shapes different natural advantages in different environments. Moreover, certain built environments benefit other organisms at the expense of others. Human existence and construction thus involves the templating of internal states onto the environment which find itself a good fit. Politics is the resolution of these different mental states on what is to be done, hence the shape and height of a chair is not a disregardable decision, it is fundamental to one’s being.

Evolution in the arctic versus the tropics as Dobzhansky writes is different. The arctic features greater environmental stress while the tropics have greater biotic stress. For these reasons the latter has greater flexibility versus specialization despite the consistently temperament climate, for variations in rainform and lifeforms are enough to induce great environmental change. We will describe how physical tendencies affect cultural social tendencies at a later time.

Dobzhansky writes that tropical organisms deal with greater biotic stress than environmental stress; yet in many ways all humans in our modern city-form-global competition existence deal with great biotic stress through academic, career, and financial competition. Like the paper ON r- and K- SELECTION denotes, no organism is completely “r-selected” nor completely “K-selected.” Generally in society, at the top-level of companies and countries, biotic stress seems greater than environmental stress, but within organizations and worlds people generally face environmental stress (work/production).

Clothing Sizing Explained

How genetic and historical reasons lead to different proportions and morphologies reflected in clothing.

The tendency for body mass to increase with latitude
Allen's rule
The tendency for limbs to be shorter in cold climates
Dobzhansky

r-selected
From the intrinsic rate of increase r in the logistic equation dN/dt = rN(1 − N/K). r-selected organisms maximize reproductive rate when population is far below carrying capacity. Traits include many offspring, little parental investment, rapid maturation, and short lifespan, characteristic of insects.
K-selected
From the carrying capacity K in the logistic equation dN/dt = rN(1 − N/K). K-selected organisms maximize competitive ability when population is near carrying capacity. Traits include few offspring, high parental investment, slow maturation, and long lifespan, characteristic of mammals.
